The DPTI developed a process for contractors to prequalify for contracts. The process sets out the prequalifying requirements for contractors applying for building projects as well as other related professional services.

The DPTI has developed its own criteria for Quality Assurance that it uses to assess the suitability of contractors. Contractors are required to obtain the following levels of certification if they want to pre-qualify as government contractors.
Lead, project manager, cost manager, construction managers and Discipline PSC are encouraged by the DPTI to seek ISO 9001 certification from a JAS-ANZ accredited organization. Two levels of certification are applicable:
